The lecture will outline the main challenges and opportunities where state-of-the art technology developments in the field of plastic electronics and hybrid integration are essential tools for enabling future applications in the field of environmental sensors modules  and healthcare applications. Environmental sensors are more and more miniaturized and intelligent to make systems highly pervasive in multiple markets. This trend has been already reported for motion sensor hubs based on MEMS and will be likely repeated for environmental ones based on optical and chemical sensing elements. The healthcare market is also one of the driving forces to push the integration of intelligent smart systems mainly in the area of molecular diagnostics and personalized medicine.
